JOSH O'Sullivan is living proof that you can overcome any type of adversity.
He had collapsed five years ago and spent three months in a coma at St George Hospital.
O'Sullivan said it was 12 months later before he returned to peak health.
After treatment, rehabilitation and a steel-like belief he would get back into sport and enjoy his life again O'Sullivan, 23, has set big ambitions.
They are to make the Australian judo team at the Olympics.
"I want to make the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics," he said.
The Gymea man was once a promising rugby league player, then turned his athletic skills to Brazilian jiu-jitsu and now judo.
He played at fullback and five-eighth and reached Australian Schoolboys rugby league level.
"I also did athletics, I have always been involved in sport;" O'Sullivan said. "I loved my footy but then at 15 I started to look at other sports. Then one year ago I started judo."
O'Sullivan said the seizures had gone and doctors have given him a full bill of health.
Making consecutive Olympics is a cutting ambition for the full-time lawn mower and landscaper.
"I want to compete for the Australian judo team in the 73-kilogram weight division at the next two Olympics," he said.
The blond athlete does his strength and conditioning work at Commando Tough, Caringbah and trains at Zenbu Gym, Silverwater and Southern Cross Jiu-Jitsu Academy, Caringbah.
The former De La Salle Caringbah student said he was recruited through an Australian Institute of Sport training camp to judo.
"I had won multiple national and jiu-jitsu titles before moving to judo," O'Sullivan said.
