Refugees omitted
I wish to commend Monsignor Brian Rayner for his thoughtful contributions to the Leader's letters pages over many years.
However, there is one issue of great significance which I don't think he has yet touched.
Successive governments have an appalling record on the treatment of refugees. The way we treat others reflects on our own character. How can we justify the inhumane treatment on Manus Island, Christmas Island and Nauru?
Despite the current government's efforts to camouflage its policies by not allowing access to journalists, it is more than apparent that "torture" is condoned.
One definition of torture as defined by the UN is internment for a non-specified time.
Monsignor, you know there are many verses which command us to take in the refugee.
