Overdevelopment 'blackout'
During his recent visits to the shire, Premier Baird has said absolutely nothing about overdevelopment — the No. 1 issue facing shire residents.
Planning Minister Pru Goward has also been very quiet for months — as she sits on the draft shire local environment plan (LEP), waiting until after the March state election to give it the nod.
She, like the Premier, knows the approval of mayor Kent Johns' LEP before the March 28 poll will severely damage the Liberals' bid to regain the seat of Miranda, which they lost on the issue of overdevelopment in 2013.
Meanwhile, we haven't heard a peep out of the Liberal candidate for Miranda on overdevelopment — because the Liberal Party knows how damaging mayor Johns' LEP will be to our shire.
To date, Premier Baird and Minister Goward have made no attempt to pull mayor Johns into line, and have no intention of doing so.
If the Liberals win Miranda, they will continually take the shire for granted, as rampant overdevelopment generated by mayor Johns' LEP takes hold.
In reality, a vote for the Liberal candidate for Miranda is a vote for more overdevelopment.
As a long-time local resident, I have lived in the shire for more than 23 years with my wife Ann and our two children.
I value our unique way of life here in the shire and will do all I can to protect and preserve it for all of our children and our grandchildren.
