THURSDAY FEBRUARY 26:
THE clock is ticking as Cronulla Sharks wait for word if they will land their biggest player signing in more than a decade.
Daly Cherry-Evans is the NRL "big catch" they are after.
Their offer to the halfback is a three-year contract from 2016.
The Manly playmaker's manager Gavin Orr, said in recent days they expected to make a decision by the end of this week.
Cherry-Evans is off contract at the end of 2015.
The Queenslander met with Sharks officials and coach Shane Flanagan on Monday.
A friendship cultivated playing at Mackay between Cherry-Evans and Sharks new five-eighth Ben Barba is seen as a "magnet" to get the halfback to swap seaside clubs.
Sharks officials are tight-lipped but believe the offer they have made Cherry-Evans could entice him to join.
Sharks chairman Damian Keogh said they were waiting for a decision.
"We should know before the start of the season," Keogh said.
One Sharks source, who did not want to be named, said it would be Manly or the Sharks.
"It's line-ball at this stage with Cherry-Evans' decision," the source said.
The 2015 NRL season kicks off next Thursday when Brisbane tackle 2014 premiers Souths at Suncorp Stadium.
