ABOUT 800 people helped celebrate Lunar New Year last Friday (February 20) at Rockdale.
King Street Place was transformed into a mini-Chinatown to welcome in the Year of the Goat (Sheep).
As well as the traditional dragon and lion dances, there was Chinese crafts, lantern riddles, Asian food and children's activities.
Mayor Shane O'Brien said it was great to see so many people enjoying the event.
"We had the whole community come out, not just for a hour or two but for the whole afternoon," he said.
He said his highlight was the dragon and lion dancing.
"It's a really interesting window into a culture that was so different to mine when I was growing up," he said.
"It's a great way of sharing cultures."
