SUTHERLAND and St George first grade teams both enter the final round of the Sydney Cricket Association premiership in the top six.
Sutherland are fourth on 48 points and Saints are sixth on 44.
There are no first grade matches this weekend with the Australia playing Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup game at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.
Last July the SCA set aside the round to allow bowlers from all clubs to bowl to the Australian and Sri Lanka batsmen in net practice on Saturday before Sunday’s game.
However, second, third, fourth and fifth grade games go ahead.
Sutherland scored 218 and dismissed Randwick-Petersham
(217) by one run in a thriller on the second-last ball on Saturday.
In-form batsman Matt Hughston made 66, all-rounder Ben Dwarshius was 65 not out and he took 4/48 with the ball.
St George earned a bonus point, getting seven overall — the mandatory six first innings points for victory and one extra for scoring their runs inside 30 overs, against Fairfield-Liverpool at Hurstville Oval.
Fairfield-Liverpool made 92 and the Saints cruised to victory on 4-93 in 22.2 overs.
Sutherland play North Sydney in a one day game on Saturday, March 14, at Glenn McGrath Oval.
The Saints will play Hawkesbury at Hawkesbury on the same day.
The finals begin on March 21.
Can Saints, Sutherland win their last games and reach the finals?
