SUTHERLAND Shire Council will look at suitable areas in the shire with high tourist appeal which could provide overnight parking for camper vans.
Councillor Steve Simpson was expected to call for a report on the idea at this week's council meeting.
The report would look at possible locations for camper van overnight stays and the cost of upgrading those sites including providing possible power, toilets and security.
As well as high tourist appeal, suitable areas would have easy access to cafes and to local businesses.
In light of this, the report into sites for camper vans would also look at long-term business opportunities in the area and employment opportunities for shire residents.
Other local government areas that have provided sites would be surveyed, looking at the financial benefits to local economies.
The cost of a campaign promoting Cronulla as a destination for local and overseas camper vans would be included.
Do you support the idea of overnight parking for camper vans in the shire?
