Sutherland Shire residents are invited to mark the centenary of Anzac Day — April 25 — at a special commemorative day at Cronulla Park.
The event will include live coverage of the Anzac Day march in the city and live coverage of the dawn service at Gallipoli — both to be seen on a large screen and stage organised by Sutherland Shire Council.
Cronulla RSL Club Sub-branch will have its Anzac dawn service (5.30am-6.30am) at Cronulla Park instead of its usual venue at Monro Park to accommodate the large crowds expected.
There will an Anzac-themed film after the dawn service until 9am when the ABC’s live coverage of the Anzac Day march through the city will be shown.
The council, in conjunction with Cook MP Scott Morrison, will have an 11am community commemorative service.
RSL clubs in the shire have been invited to attend.
Local entertainer and three-time Golden Guitar winner Luke O’Shea will perform at noon.
The coverage will switch at 12.30pm to the dawn service at Gallipoli.
The idea behind the day is to have a shire-wide Anzac Day commemoration which will complement the dawn services at Sutherland, Miranda, Caringbah and Cronulla.
The federal government’s Anzac centenary grant program has helped with the Cronulla Park event.
