Business owners are concerned about parking once Target leaves Rockdale in November.
More than a dozen gathered to speak about their worry last night at a meeting organised by Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.
A fiery debate erupted between Rockdale Council representatives and the audience over whether the loss of Target would mean less parking.
The council owns the site but has a 50-year lease with Plaza Apartments Pty Ltd which expires in 2024.
Business owners are worried that a new tenant could demolish the Target car park which is free all day and used by workers and customers.
The council’s consultant development manager, Jeff Appel, said the car park would stay.
‘‘There are conditions on the lease to continue to provide public parking,’’ he said.
