THE history and legacy of Rockdale's Anzacs will be showcased as part of a new exhibition at Rockdale Town Hall.
Together We Remember will be on display March 12 to 22 and details the area's World War I contribution.
Rockdale Council local history services specialist Kirsten Broderick has spent months curating the exhibition, which features 40 photographs.
"There's been a lot of interest so far. I think people are surprised how many local residents enlisted," she said.
"There would have been about 2000 men from the local area. Men from every street enlisted so every family would have felt that impact."
Many were young, including Arncliffe teenager Clifford Small, who enlisted in August 1915 when he was 19.
He was killed by an enemy shell less than a year later in the trenches at Pozieres.
"After he died his family put a notice in the Sydney Morning Herald that said 'Do not ask us if we miss him. There is such a vacant place'. I think that really sums up what people were feeling," she said.
"I hope people take away an awareness that these were real people; the experiences they had and what they went through."
Also on exhibition will be Australia and Lemnos — Forever Linked.
Part of the Sydney Greek Festival, it highlights the links between Australia and the island of Lemmos, particularly around World War I.
