IF more people knew the environmental impact of meat production, they would reduce their consumption.
That is the opinion of university student Bernice Lethlean who has signed up for Meat Free Week (March 23-29).
Ms Lethlean said she had recently undertaken a vegan diet after deciding her usual food was making her sluggish.
"As soon as I started to cut things out I felt better," she said.
"The more I looked into it I found out the ethical and environmental impacts.
"When it was just for health results I would have bits and pieces of eggs and meat but once I started learning about animal agriculture I cut it out completely.
"I can't see myself going back."
"Everyone calls themselves an animal lover and we are on the verge of massive climate change and species extinction worldwide and the driving force is animal agricultural," she said.
"You can cook delicious food without meat and it feels good to know that you are eating cruelty free as well."
