SUTHERLAND Shire Council will consider spending $560,000 on converting the Woronora fire trail into a dedicated cycleway and pedestrian path.
The funding plan was revealed after independent candidate for Heathcote Greg Petty called for $1.3 million collected from developers of Woronora Heights 34 years ago to be spent on roadworks to reduce traffic congestion.
"Peak hour traffic will only get worse," he said.
A council spokeswoman said part of the developer contributions had been spent on new roundabouts at the Achilles/Cooriengah Heights roads and Cambrai Avenue/Woollybutt Road intersections.
Two further projects, costing more than $1 million, would also soon be voted on in the budget.
The spokeswoman said the three Ward D councillors had agreed that two projects, one being the cycleway-pedestrian link, were a priority.
Traffic signals, as part of a school safety project at the Caldarra/Anzac avenues intersection, was the other priority they nominated.
The cycleway-pedestrian path would cost $560,000, east side kerb and guttering in Bundanoon Road, $100,000, and the school safety project, $600,000.
