New day and a new south swell for Cronulla surfers. The northern end of the beach is just foam so head a little further south to get a bit of protection even though with the high tide there may be a few sneaky suck ups at Wanda (I didn’t tell you - blame Horvath)
I took today's pics at the Alley because that’s where I had a surf and it was around the 3ft mark (6.30 and it was still dark) so I didn’t have time to hang around. There were a few guys surfing at the Dunnies so that may be worth checking.
Another first for this morning, today's pics are in the exact order I took them! Amazing I know and in another first it’s the first time I have been paid to put a pic on the front page. Grills gave me some beer so I gave him the dubious honour!
In the Swellnet forecast they say today is the peak of this swell so make the most of it. The winds seem to be drifting from all angles with Saturday morning the pic of the conditions.
Speaking of conditions the forecast for Bells isn’t looking so hot either so there may be some more Brazilian pain to endue-the very end of the swell window seems to be the most promising.
The New Zealand Home Loans Surf Festival is off to a fast start at Fitzroy Beach Taranaki with Round 1 of the North Beach World Surf League Junior Men’s and Women’s JQS1000 completed on the opening day.
Cronulla's Paris Whittaker crossed the ditch and stole the show on the final day of the Rip Curl GromSearch held at New Zealand’s Fitzroy beach last Sunday.
Paris, 16, of Caringbah, defended her title from 2014, making it back to back wins at the Rip Curl Gromsearch in New Zealand. The teenager posted an excellent score early in the final and finished with a 12.1 point heat total.She than backed it up with a win in the expression session.
All the Elouera young guns,Campbell,Hickel and Martin(Harrison) made it into round three at Taranaki but all were gone by the quarter finals which is on now.
I don’t know if they will make it back in time but 32 teams will contest this week’s Surftag Australian Championships at North Narrabeen with the host club striving for their sixth Men’s Australian Title.
Elouera and Cronulla clubs carry the hopes of the shire fraternity.
They join NSW south coast club Culburra, who are competing for the first time in the heat draw, Coffs Harbour, Merewether, Norah Head, North Shelly, Wamberal, Avoca, MacMasters, North Avalon, Newport, Mona Vale, North Narrabeen, Long Reef, Curl Curl, Queenscliff, North Steyne, Bondi, Bronte, Maroubra, Scarborough, Woonona and Werri Beach.
North Narrabeen will have to finish on top of a quality field that includes last Teams will competing for a slice of the $20,000 prize pool with the Australian Champions pocketing $7,000.
The Surftag format involves teams of five surfers (one over thirty year old per team, competing in relay-style.
Each surfer must catch three waves and then return to the beach to ‘tag’ their teammate. But any winning team knows the key to trumping their opposition is to solidify on the second wave that scores double points, known as the ‘Powerwave’.

The Australian Longboard Surfing Open is a five day celebration of the surfing lifestyle held in March each year in the warm, wave rich waters of Kingscliff on the NSW Tweed Coast.
This year’s event has attracted the current crop of professional longboard surfing superstars including reigning World Longboard Champions Harley Ingleby and Chelsea Williams. Together they rub shoulders with stars from the early years like the world’ss first ever surfing champion, Phyllis O'Donnell, surf mogul Doug Warbrick and the Godfather of soul surfing Ray Gleave. As well as showcasing some of the world’s best longboard surfers as they compete in the World Surf League (WSL) Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS). The event will also feature surfing's lifestyle image of art, music, cars, movies and more. The event will run from March 25th - 29th at Kingscliff on the NSW Tweed Coast.
Finally, the second stop on the Samsung Galaxy World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach will be held from Wednesday April 1 to Sunday April 12, , and is one of the most coveted titles on Tour.
The longest-running professional surfing contest in the world, the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach has been taking place each year since 1962 with the 53rd iteration getting underway in two weeks’ time. The WSL will showcase the unparalleled adventure, competitive drama and athleticism of professional surfing as the world’s best surfers battle stair runs, long paddles, cold water and leg-burning waves to earn the right to ‘ring the bell’.
