SPORTING clubs across the region will benefit from upgrades to Arncliffe Park at Arncliffe and Gardiner Park at Banksia.
Rockdale mayor Shane O'Brien turned the first sod on the new amenities building at Gardiner Park on Wednesday.
The upgrades are part of the council's community building program which will upgrade community buildings across the area.
The buildings have been designed with input from the sporting clubs that use the park to ensure they are functional.
They include new toilets including an accessible toilet, new change rooms with showers and toilets, baby change facilities, improved lighting and pathway and canteen, and storage areas.
Cr O'Brien said the new buildings were a win for park users.
"The existing buildings were very old and not built in consideration for what was actually needed," he said.
"It's very exciting to see that the hard decisions we had to make are paying off."
