Umbrage taken
I write in reference to the article "Mayor bans booze" (Leader, March 10) about a decision based on some broad-bush imputations from Anne Wagstaff stating that "it is beyond belief that elected public representatives would drink alcohol before making important decisions".
This is a complete nonsense. At no time while serving on the council with Anne Wagstaff did I witness any elected representative who may have consumed an alcoholic beverage either at home or at the council before a meeting affected in any way that impaired their decision-making.
Without any evidence of such behaviour put forward I take umbrage as should mayor Hindi at these aspersions cast by her on past and present Hurstville councillors.
Regarding so-called junkets, the mayor's advice that it costs more to hire council facilities than the Terrigal venue is well documented; however, ratepayers must now be at a loss to understand why the mayor having these clear facts does a back-flip allowing political point-scoring to control decisions affecting council's strategic planning.
