Skydiver Michael Vaughan has died in hospital after being involved in a fatal parachuting accident near Byron Bay on Friday.
Police confirmed Mr Vaughan, aged in his 40s, died on Saturday evening.
"Michael's scans showed no brain activity and Kate and his family faced the gut-wrenching decision to turn the machines off, which they did," an update on Mr Vaughan's Facebook site said.
Another seasoned skydiver involved in the accident, 29-year-old Alana Clarke died at the scene of the accident at Tyagarah airfield, just north of Byron Bay.
Ms Clarke was from Melbourne but moved to the Byron Bay area in 2012 to set up her childcare business, Byron Bay Babysitting, after more than a decade in the industry.
In a touching tribute posted on Facebook on Saturday, her father John wrote: "Our beautiful Alana. Embracing life to the fullest. You went doing what you loved."
While the incident is still being investigated, it appeared the two skydivers suffered a mid-air canopy entanglement, which caused them to plummet to the ground.
The NSW Ambulance Service was called to an area just off the Pacific Highway about 3.30pm on Friday.
Paramedics treated the pair, but Ms Clarke died at the scene while Mr Vaughan was airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital in a critical condition.
He underwent surgery for serious injuries according to the updates on his Facebook site.
Less than 24 hours before the tragedy, Mr Vaughan had uploaded a picture on Facebook of Ms Clarke, himself and several skydiving students whom he had been hosting as part of a week-long training course.
Mr Vaughan was an Australian, New England and World Record holder in parachuting canopy formations. He formed the two-way canopy formation team Ookoonono and ran training courses for skydivers for all levels. He had achieved more than 9000 jumps.
Messages of hope from Mr Vaughan's friends all over the world flowed into his Facebook page in the last day as news of the accident spread in the skydiving community.
"Hey Mikey! I remember jumping with you and especially flying my canopy with your ass in my face! Good memories! Stay strong and fight, because I definitely want your ass in my face (only on canopy of course) again! All the very best from Austria mate!!!" wrote Peter Karius.
"Michael, buddy, you have as much will and determination as anyone I have ever known. And you are loved by thousands around the world who are interceding for you now while you are down and out. I am believing and expecting you to pull through. Go Michael! You can do this!!" Shannon Pilcher form Florida posted.
On Saturday night, the last update simply said: "Bye buddy - we all love you."
