Big start for Southern Districts
RUGBY UNION: Southern Districts first grade rugby union made it two wins from the opening two rounds of the this year’s Shute Shield, thrashing Parramatta 34-7 on Saturday at Forshaw Rugby Park. The Rebels scored five tries in an impressive display and are second on nine points.
Sutho concedes
CRICKET: Sutherland first grade team bowed out of the Sydney Cricket Association competition when they drew against Manly in the two-day semi-final on the weekend. Manly, as minor premiers, only had to draw the game to advance to the final. After winning the toss on Saturday, Manly scored 5-434 from 140 overs. Midway through the afternoon session on Sunday, Sutherland conceded the game and it was called a draw. Sutherland didn’t get a chance to bat.
Green concussed
NETBALL: NSW Swifts captain Kimberlee Green, of Miranda, was ruled out of Monday night’s ANZ Championship game against the Queensland Firebirds because of injury. Green, 29, suffered concussion last week against the West Coast Fever.
Bears pounce
BASKETBALL: Sutherland Sharks men’s Waratah League team lost 69-95 to Norths Bears on Saturday at Waratah Stadium.
Easter break
FOOTBALL: Sutherland Shire Football Association’s competition rounds miss Easter and resume on April 11 and 12.
