Art a mirror into the past

TAKE a close look and what do you see?

It took Isabell Grady a whole year to find the answer.

A trip back in time was the starting point for her final HSC visual art project.

The year 12 student from St George Girls High School, Kogarah, created an oil painting that explored vanity and "excessive pride".

Her artwork, Mirror Mirror on the Wall, was inspired by her Eurasian cultural background.

"My mother is Chinese and my father is Irish, so I wanted to look at different dynasties," she said. "I took the symbol of the mirror to show how vanity is so prominent in society and put myself in it to show my culture."
