TAKING over the reins of Menai Public School will involve more than sifting through paperwork in her office for Wanita Bowles.
The new principal of the primary school plans to step away from her desk from time to time, and do what she loves best — teaching.
Mrs Bowles has been in the profession for 24 years.
She has taught in schools across Sydney and was the assistant principal of Burraneer Bay and Illawong public schools.
With specialised interest in literacy and numeracy, Mrs Bowles was a leader of professional development for all Sydney schools, based at the Department of Education's regional office at Arncliffe.
"I am passionate about developing strong links with families here, and we are a small school so that enables us to have personalised education for every pupil," she said.
"I already know each child by name.
"I have also met with some great preschools and service providers, so I'm excited about building relationships and programs between our school and the community."
