Chris Waller believes Kermadec is a group 1 horse and if he doesn't gain a run in Saturday's Doncaster Mile, he could be saved for the All Aged Stakes in a fortnight.
Punters should be aware that he is unlikely to start in the Carbine Club Stakes.
"There is still a rough chance he will get into the Doncaster, but it is unlikely," Waller admitted on his weekly YouTube preview.
"If that's the case, we will decide if we run him here [in Saturday's Carbine Club Stakes] or whether we wait for the All Aged Stakes. It is all about group 1s with this horse. He is a colt and he is a group 1 colt.
"He can run in these races for the rest of his life, so do we wait for the All Aged Stakes and have him as sharp as we can for that?"
PLEASING PEEPING
Ron Quinton is happy to bank on Peeping overcoming a rain-affected track at Randwick as the filly searches for a first group win in the PJ Bell Stakes.
"The weather is a bit of an unknown and when she won [on debut] the track was a little affected, but I'm happy with her," Quinton said. "She's done real well and she's done a really good job. She's a racehorse."
Peeping has graduated from a fillies and mares benchmark 70 handicap at the start of her campaign to win the listed Darby Munro at her last start and was an easing $3.70 favourite with Ladbrokes on Thursday evening.
TATTS ENOUGH
Joe Pride reckons the tattoos with names of his group 1 winners is going to stop - but wasn't so sure when asked if Rain Affair could jag a long-awaited major with a huge TJ Smith Stakes surprise.
"I would have to think about it," Pride joked.
The Warwick Farm trainer has already inked the names of Terravista, Steps In Time, Sacred Choice and Regal Cheer.
"I've said, 'that's enough'," Pride said. "My new criteria is champions only can get on there. If the horse is prepared to go through what they go through then I figure half-an-hour of that is not too bad."
BREATHTAKING GUST
Anyone doing the form for the Adrian Knox Stakes should get a video of Gust Of Wind's first-up win at Scone.
"Horses just don't do what she did," trainer John Sargent said.
"I was already trying to work out what I would tell the owners because we always though she was pretty good. But when she was a half a dozen [lengths] off the second last horse [at 600m] you start to think, what the hell's going on?
"It still amazes me to watch her win that race."
The Darci Brahma filly has won at Hawkesbury over a mile and is on trial for the Oaks.
"She is owned in the same interests as Thunder Lady, but we have always thought she would get to the Oaks as well," Sargent said.
