WATCHING a documentary about meat production changed Matthew Brune’s life.
The self-confessed ‘‘100 per cent carnivore’’ immediately changed his diet, following in the footsteps of his wife Lisa, who had stopped eating all animal products.
‘‘I thought, ‘I’m not going to just eat carrots and lettuce all my life’,’’ he said.
So Herbisaurus was born, with the tagline ‘‘Vegan food never tasted so good.’’
‘‘We started making food for ourselves and weren’t sure what was going to happen.
‘‘We started with three burger patties, [then] we started making vegan sausage rolls, then vegan lasagne.’’
Mrs Brune even makes her own cheese-free cheesy sauce for the lasagne, with the family-sized meal at $20.
Mr Brune said there was a lack of healthy, pre-made vegan meals and people had responded well to their range.
‘‘We are giving people options,’’ he said.
Herbisaurus sells whole foods full of nutrients and with no additives or preservatives — and food is made and sold fresh, never frozen.
They sell at Ramsgate Foodies market each Saturday and have free delivery in Sutherland Shire for all purchases of over $20.
‘‘We are trying to keep it as healthy as possible and also trying to keep it cheap,’’ Mr Brune said.
