Southern Districts rugby union first grade team is undefeated so far.
The Shute Shield grand finalists from last year have hit the ground running and the latest victim in their rolling campaign was Eastern Suburbs on Saturday at Forshaw Rugby Park.
The Rebels tamed the Beasts, 43-22, to make it four wins from four games which has given coach Matt Barr and the team a perfect start to the season.
The Rebels next face Sydney University on Saturday at 3pm at Forshaw Rugby Park, Sylvania Waters.
First grade coach Matt Barr, of Gymea, who is a physical education and health teacher at Waverley College, said the Rebels had a tough draw in the next several weeks.
‘‘We play Sydney Uni at home this week, then Manly at Manly and Gordon at Chatswood Oval, their home ground,’’ Barr said.
Halfback Dewet Roos was a major contributor in the Saturday victory.
‘‘Dewet is a Southern Districts junior in our team,’’ Barr said.
‘‘Many of the team are local juniors which is something the club works hard on cultivating.’’
Barr said the close-knit group worked hard for one another in training and on the field.
Barr is a strong advocate of the ‘‘team philosophy’’ approach with his coaching.
Barr’s team play a tough style of rugby when needed but like to be expansive and skilful with the attacking minded players in the team.
The Rebels have reached two of the past three grand finals — losing to Eastwood in 2012 and last year.
Barr said the Rebels were third in the 2015 season on 19 points on for and against percentages; Manly lead the comp, Eastwood are second.
