NEW outdoor gym equipment which can be used by seniors has been installed at Sunnyside Reserve, in Sunnyside Avenue, Caringbah.
It has been designed to benefit various age groups but is especially appropriate for seniors to use for gentle weight-bearing fitness activities.
There are three equipment pieces in the reserve, which is a short walk from the Caringbah central business district.
They were built at a cost of $33,000, of which $21,000 came from the state government's age-friendly community local government grants scheme and $12,000 from Sutherland Shire Council.
Seniors can do stretching and basic weight resistance training.
There are step-up pods for cardio activities and a synthetic grass surface underneath.
Sunnyside Reserve has a children's playground, barbecue facilities, shaded areas and a perimeter footpath that is suitable for use as a walking track.
