ROCKDALE residents will have the chance to have their say on possible council mergers through a series of meetings with Rockdale mayor Shane O'Brien and general manager Meredith Wallace.
The first council hour was held 7am-8.30am on Friday, April 17, at Arncliffe railway station. This will be followed up by events at Kingsgrove, Rockdale, Ramsgate and Bexley over the next two weeks.
The council organised the meetings to discuss the mergers with residents and has released a brochure on all merger options.
The state government launched the $1 billion Fit for the Future package in September.
A total of $258 million will be given to councils that merge, including $153 million for councils in Sydney.
Councils have until June 30 to submit how they plan to be "fit for the future".
Rockdale Council hired consultant Morrison Low for an independent assessment of each option ahead of the June deadline.
Options include Rockdale remaining a single council, a merger with Hurstville Council, a merger with Kogarah Council, a new St George council (Rockdale, Hurstville and Kogarah councils), a St George and Canterbury council or a Bayside/Airport council including Rockdale, Botany Bay and Marrickville councils.
