AN ART competition for dementia patients in St George and Sutherland Shire has awarded prizes worth a total of $1000.
The organisation behind the competition was founded in the US in 1994.
About Home Instead Senior Care started in Australia 10 years ago and has since spread to Europe and Asia.
The competition aims to raise awareness and give seniors with dementia the chance to showcase their artistic prowess.
John McKeon was awarded the first prize at Mary Potter House, Calvary Hospital, Kogarah.
Home Instead's community relationship manager Virginia Hughes said dementia was a serious problem and Home Instead was passionate about raising awareness of the struggles associated with the disease.
The judging panel included the social and therapeutic program co-ordinator at Alzheimer's Australia NSW, Denise Herman.
