SHIRE seniors were centre-stage recently.
Their unique life stories were part of the Out of the Box theatre performance held at Sutherland School of Arts to mark Seniors Week.
Billed as an interactive performance, about 40 seniors shared stories of their lives, which were then acted out on stage by performers using movement, mime, music and humour.
The event began with the master of ceremonies asking the audience, "What does being a senior mean?"
Some of the responses included freedom, friendship and connection, new adventures, doing something new from the usual habits and reclaiming activities that had been put on hold while they brought up their families.
One performance told the story of a senior giving up their office job to go on a luxury cruise. Another performance told of learning to accept offers of assistance from younger people.
The spirit of the day was summed up by one senior with the acronym GOLD — Grow Old, Live Dangerously.
