UPDATE:
Cronulla Sharks captain Paul Gallen is in doubt for the game against South Sydney on Monday, April 20, at Remondis Stadium, Woolooware.
Gallen has been battling an upper thigh/hip injury for the past two weeks and would need painkilling injections to play.
A final decision on Gallen’s fitness will not be made until Monday.
Game preview:
Cronulla Sharks tackle premiers South Sydney in their round seven NRL encounter at 7pm on Monday, April 20, at Remondis Stadium, Woolooware.
Rookie five-eighth Jack Bird, 20, faces a more experienced player, Glenn Stewart, playing out of position in the No. 6 jersey.
Stewart has been in two Manly premierships teams and has played for NSW and Australia.
His passing game and ability to read the play is suited in the halves.
Stewart, who joined Souths in the off-season, replaces regular No. 6 John Sutton, who has a broken jaw.
Bird has played in three NRL games this season — one as an interchange player against Gold Coast Titans and at No. 6 against Sydney Roosters and Newcastle Knights.
Sharks historian Jeff Petersen said that in 82 games between the two clubs, the Sharks have won 42 games, Souths 37 and there have been three draws.
The Sharks have won 28 games to the Rabbitohs 12 at Remondis Stadium; there has been one draw.
Can the Sharks make it three wins in a row and defeat the premiers on Monday night?
