Rockdale Council has signed a $24 million contract for the design and construction of Rockdale City Aquatic Centre.
The council chose FDC Construction and Fit Out for the project more than four months after councillors voted to go ahead with the tender process.
The December vote ended in a stalemate over the project which had an original tag of $30 million.
Construction is expected to begin in July and be completed by early 2017.
The centre will have a 50-metre outdoor pool, a 25-metre indoor combined learn-to-swim and competition pool, an outdoor children's splash pad, kiosk, creche and community room.
A gym is on the project list but will depend on ground conditions.
