UPDATE FRIDAY:
WEDNESDAY:
Obviously there are massive waves today, the funny thing is it’s kind of clean in the Southern corner of the beach and I was surprised there were no surfers out the Point this morning.
It is smaller and a lot cleaner than yesterday but with the typical East coast low, it will die pretty quickly and its only going to be 3ft on Friday.I am sure there were waves this morning at KP-It was dark and I had too much other carnage to shoot but I did have a little look yesterday and the winds were nice on the faces but it wasn’t very big .
I did have a look at the Bay this morning - when I was young (violins) the Bay was a class wave, shallow river mouth drainpipes breaking all the way into the Hacking…..What happened to that? Now it’s a soft left off Hungary Pt and a smaller right that breaks fat in the middle of the Bay. Everything was better in the old days - except peoples memories!
I also checked Shoes which was surfable (Alley lefts) and even had a little look at Treachery - now that is a wave!
Swellnet reports this swell is on the wane so tomorrow should be a good day to get wet-6ft Sou East swell with a 8knot Southerly blowing-hopefully with a little West in it.
The women's Quarterfinals are in the water today at the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro, right now Sally is surfing against Carissa. "We are going to go straight into the women's Quarterfinals," said Jessi Miley-Dyer, WSL Deputy Commissioner. "It's looking really good out there today. That swell that we've been watching has really come in and we've got offshore winds so it's looking really clean."
Its 6-8ft maybe and hard offshore with a lot of chatter on the face-its not that easy to watch because the woman cant quite get a rail in the water.
In the mens, John John Florence became the first Semifinalists today after defeating Jay Davies in the Quarterfinals. Davies opened with a 6.17 for an early lead but the Hawaiian looked electric in the large surf at Margaret River, answering with a series of stylish turns for an 8.67 and a lead change. The pair went wave for wave in the closing ten minutes of the heat, with both surfers posting good scores but it was Florence who got the better of the exciting exchange, finding a 9.20 for the win.
Young beat Bourez ,Taj towled Wilson and once again King Kelly got smoked by his nemesis-De Souza! The men are not surfing today-Ladies only.
Once again in my favourite topic, The International Surfing Association (ISA) has welcomed Scotland and Finland as its 95th and 96th Member Federations respectively, further driving the global development of Surfing.
Including Scotland and Finland, the ISA has inducted 17 new Member Federations from around the world since January 2014 underlining the sports worldwide growth. Other nations to join the ISA include Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Cayman Islands, The Gambia, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Poland, Madagascar, Nauru, Nepal, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and the US Virgin Islands.
Global development is a key element of the ISA's strategy and the consistent growth and reach amongst young people is a driving force behind the ISA's ambitions of making Surfing an Olympic sport.
I won’t bore you with any more irrelevant info-we had no local success in the 2015 Ocean and Earth Southern Cross SUP Festival, which is probably a good thing so put the last few days behind you and hope the storm surf has left us with some Anzac day banks, lest we forget!
