A DREAM became a reality for Carss Park FC on Saturday but the man behind developing football for children with special needs was not there to see it.
Former president Darryl Hancock had died on May 6, 2014.
However, his legacy and the work he began lives on through the dedication of his wife, Penny, his boys (Stuart, Brendan and Nathan), Carss Park FC and Warriors committees and St George Football Association.
The St George Warriors FC teams kicked off their season on Saturday at Parkside Drive, home ground of Carss Park FC, a foundation club in the St George association.
"The launch was a great success," Penny Hancock said. "The teamwork of everyone involved made it happen.
"We had a beautiful launch, a fantastic start to our newest joint program and most importantly, a group of happy children who are our newest association players, their families and supporters."
Mauro Poletti of The Poletti Corporation made an additional $5000 donation and Warriors sponsor Rentokil supported the program.
Other supporters were St George FC, Rockdake City Suns, Sans Souci and Bexley North FC and coaches Aytek Genc and Miro Vlastelica.
Michelle Allen, from St George Football Association Referees Association, organised cadet referees for the inaugural games.
Rockdale City Suns under-11s and Carss Park FC under-7s teams played the Warriors teams in their opening matches.
