SKIPPER Paul Gallen has been named to play for Cronulla Sharks against Penrith in NRL round eight at 2pm on Sunday at Pepper Stadium, Penrith.
Gallen missed Monday night's 18-10 win against Souths in wet and windy conditions.
The Test forward has carried a bruised hip and gluteal muscle tear for several weeks.
Gallen, who had fluid drained from the injured muscle this week, hopes to run at training to prove his fitness.
He wants to play against the Panthers to stake his claim for a recall to international rugby league.
Gallen missed the 2014 Four Nations series because he had accepted a backdated ASADA ban at the end of last season.
Sharks trio of Luke Lewis, Michael Gordon and Wade Graham make the return trip to play against their former club, Penrith.
The Australian 17-man squad to play New Zealand in the Anzac Test match on May 1 in Brisbane will be named this Sunday.
