Hurstville Council has a free green domestic waste collection for storm-affected residents.
Mayor Con Hindi said the council offered the service because of the sheer volume of trees and shrubs damaged.
‘‘Residents can discard additional green waste accumulated because of the storms,’’ he said.
‘‘The council cannot enter private property under any circumstances, so I am urging residents to put green waste materials on the nature strip for collection.’’
Cr Hindi asked residents to be patient as the collection could take up to two weeks.
‘‘This is because the council has emergency works which must take priority,’’ he said.
‘‘Several council buildings and facilities were damaged during the storm.
‘‘Repairs have begun to ensure the safety of residents.’’
Cr Hindi encourages witnesses to report storm damage in the council’s parks, reserves, public land and facilities.
Waste collection requests: 9330 6222; this service ends on May 12.
