RIVERSIDE Christian Church, based in Oatley Public School, has delivered goods for the past four years to homeless people at Sydney's Kings Cross.
Volunteers collect and deliver blankets and bedrolls, jumpers, jeans, socks, underwear, toiletries and much more.
Among the regular volunteers are children, retirees, school groups, members of the local police, and more recently, women from the Australian water polo team who have come up with a fundraising idea with a difference.
Elysha O'Neill, Bec Rippon and Jackie Blue organised the MAD (Make A Difference) Mega Swim, a 24-hour swim with sponsored teams taking part. Starting at noon on Saturday, June 20, and finishing at noon on Sunday, June 21, one member from each team will be in the water at all times.
Camden Aquatic Centre has agreed to host the event and the church is hoping businesses will get involved with sponsorship in goods or funds.
Family and friends are invited to sleep out under the stars to show support and to connect with the experiences of homeless people.
People sleeping out should bring a $20 contribution towards the fundraising effort.
