New MPs Eleni Petinos (Miranda), Chris Minns (Kogarah) and Steve Kamper (Rockdale) were among ‘‘new faces in the crowd’’ when the Legislative Assembly was sworn in.
Mark Speakman (Cronulla), as a new minister, took up a position on the front bench.
The Legislative Assembly was summoned by the Usher of the Black Rod to the Legislative Council to hear the commission for the opening before members returned to their own chamber to take a pledge of loyalty.
Governor David Hurley was due to address a joint sitting of both houses in the afternoon.
