IT LOOKED like he would become a professional athlete but work as an extra on the set of Frauds (1993) changed the direction of Harry Pavlidis of Sylvania.
Pavlidis was only 23 then and earning pocket money when actor Hugo Weaving advised him to enrol in an acting school, and that's exactly what Pavlidis did.
After attending Beverly Hills Play House under Milton Katselas in Los Angeles and the Actors Centre Australia, Pavlidis set his life's course.
By then, he had also represented his state several times in sport and held records after playing various codes including cricket, rugby league and American football.
Pavlidis' latest film project is Infini which follows an elite search and rescue team transported on to an off-world mining facility to rescue Whit Carmichael (played by Sutherland Shire actor Daniel MacPherson).
Carmichael is the only survivor of a biological outbreak.
Pavlidis' role is that of Harris Menzies, a member of the search and rescue team of eight.
Pavlidis found that sporting prowess and acting complemented one another: "There has to be co-ordination within mind and body," he said.
Apart from acting, the other love of his life is his daughter to whom he is fond of saying "I love you all the way to the Milky Way, not the short way but the long way".
"Incidentally, my Infini character says this in the film too," Pavlidis said.
Infini will be shown at 8.30pm on Thursday, May 7, at Randwick Ritz, 45 St Pauls Street, Randwick; tickets: adults $20, concessions $15; Infini can be rented or bought on iTunes and other digital platforms from May 8.
