RESIDENTS are invited to take advantage of Hurstville Council's free mulch giveaway day on Saturday, May 30.
Mayor Con Hindi said that during the past 12 months the council had accumulated a large amount of mulch from tree pruning and associated works within the local government area.
"Mulching your garden has many environmental and aesthetic benefits, including protecting plant root systems and adding much-needed nutrients to the soil," he said.
"It also helps prevent weeds and retain moisture, so that you will spend less time maintaining your garden and more time enjoying it."
Residents will have to show a rates notice or other proof of residence to obtain the mulch.
As the mulch is for domestic use, only one utility vehicle or suitable trailer load for each residence will be allowed.
Bags of mulch will be available for residents who do not have access to a utility vehicle or trailer.
The giveaway will be from 8am to 2pm at the council's works depot, entry via Depot Road, Peakhurst.
