IT could be a real life farce, a solicitor who does not go to court playing the part on stage of a counsel for the plaintiff, and singing about the experience.
This is the scenario facing Arncliffe solicitor Megan Chalmers as she appears in Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury.
"I don't do any court work but of course I've briefed barristers over the years," Chalmers said.
As a counsel, she defends "a cad" called Edwin (Mitch Bryson) who has tossed over his bride-to-be.
The bride Angelina (Samanta Lestavel) is suing her fiance for breach of promise. John Morrison of Gymea is the judge, Glen Seltzer of Hurstville is the usher and John Tse of Hurstville is the foreman.
If there is an anomaly of being in the real world of the law but having a singing part in an on-stage courtroom, Chalmers faces an even more disparate role in Cox and Box, a farce being staged as part of a double bill with Trial by Jury by Rockdale Opera Company. Chalmers is the landlady Mrs Bouncer who is renting the same room to two men, Cox and Box, and it's a secret.
