NINETEEN projects in the area will share in $50,000 as part of Rockdale Council's community grants program.
Forty-three applications from community groups and clubs were received, 11 of which were approved for small grants of up to $1500, while nine groups received seeding grants of up to $5000.
Small grants were issued to buy equipment and run activities or events, while seeding grants assist the establishment of a community, social, cultural or leisure program or activity.
Carers NSW received $5000 to help establish a support group for older parent carers.
Carers NSW chief executive Elena Katrakis said the grant would help with the cost of setting up the new group.
"Support groups are a fantastic way to meet other carers who are in a similar situation," she said.
"It's invaluable for them to come together and share their experiences.
"Often carers are looking after their loved ones 24/7 so groups help break down social isolation.
"With older carers it's often about 'what will happen when I pass on and where will they live?'.
"We are working with 35 families in the area to date, so this support group will really help families in the area."
