About 6000 people are expected to attend the free annual Zine Fair from today, Friday, to Sunday at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Zines – short for fanzines or magazines – are independent or self-published publications usually of a limited run.
Jack Irwin, 24, of Miranda is one of the people displaying and selling his wares.
‘‘I work part time as a screen printer for t-shirts, and do art part time,’’ Irwin said.
‘‘I’ve got little paper art works, about the size of A5, cartoon characters like Bart Simpson and Mickey Mouse.
‘‘Both my mother and father are artistic and they’ve very encouraging.’’
It will be the first time Irwin has been a part of the Zine Fair and he has a space there tonight and Sunday.
Zine items come in a variety of formats and often include original and other text and images, with topics including poetry, art, personal journals and politics.
This is the MCA’s eighth Zine Fair and is running in conjunction with the Sydney Writers Festival and Vivid.
The Zine Fair will have stallholders spilling out into the Museum wing over two levels.
Tonight it will run from 5pm-9pm and on both days of the weekend from 10am-5pm.
