IT'S not often that Australian fans of European football teams ever get the chance to see them play.
But with English giants Tottenham Hotspur to play Sydney FC on Saturday night, the Kouros family are ready to make the most of their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Spurs, who finished their English Premier League commitments in the early hours of Monday morning, will arrive on Thursday for the glamour friendly against the Sky Blues at ANZ Stadium.
For Barry Kouros, it will be a dream come true.
Kouros, from Monterey, has supported the club for about 15 years since meeting a cousin from London, a Spurs fan.
"I always enjoyed watching the EPL and other leagues but Dad never had a team," he said. "As you do, you go for who your Dad goes for. We worked out he didn't like Arsenal. Once I met my cousin, who was a Tottenham supporter, that was it."
Kouros said it would be a weekend he and his family would always remember.
"I was trying to relate to my kids the type of atmosphere they're going to experience," he said.
"I've showed them videos of all the fans singing. I thought I was going to cry.
"It's been a long time coming. Week in, week out there are Spurs fans at the Triple Ace Bar in the city. It doesn't matter what time of the morning they kick off, there are Spurs fans there."
Kouros, 36, has seen Spurs play at White Hart Lane, their famous home ground in north London.
But it will be the first chance for his family to see the Lilywhites in the flesh.
"Every day the kids ask 'how long until we watch Tottenham play?"' he said.
"It will be a family affair. We're all going — Dad, my brother, my wife, the kids and father-in-law. It will be amazing."
A crowd of around 70,000 is expected for Tottenham's visit, their first in more than 30 years.
