A DOG exercise area in Civic Avenue Reserve, Kogarah, will become a permanent fixture after a successful trial.
The dog area was built in April 2014 as part of a 12-month trial.
The area has been a big hit with dog owners, prompting Rockdale Council to vote at the May 20 council meeting to make it permanent.
The decision comes after the council consulted neighbours and park users.
Of the 49 park users surveyed, 65 per cent were satisfied or above while 35 per cent were not satisfied.
Following consultation, the council made some minor improvements, including the installation of a water station and a bag dispenser to encourage people to pick up after their dogs.
Councillor Mark Hanna (independent) said he was a fan of the project, despite not being a dog lover.
"I think it's great for the dog owners," he said.
"I've driven past it a number of times and it's in a great location.
"Dog ownership brings with it a lot of benefits. If we'd got the timing right we could have even had a celebrity opening. I'm thinking of Johnny Depp."
