The St George and Sutherland Shire Leader won a best community newspaper category at the Community Newspapers of Australia (CNA) awards on Friday night at Darling Harbour.
The Leader shared the northern division and national honours with The Wentworth Courier for community newspapers with a circulation of more than 50,000.
Judges said the quality of the entries was strong "with good editorial and advertising content".
Leader photographer Chris Lane won the Best Sport Photo category with a shot from a UFC cage fighting event.
Judges said "Wow. Great use of being so close to the action, great timing, and changing it to a dark black and white adds to the fear and brutality that is UFC."
