HALF a century is a long time for any organisation to survive these days — which is why Engadine Eagles are ready to celebrate.
The Eagles celebrate their 50th year in 2015 and will mark the occasion with a reunion at the club's senior presentation on October 10 and the publishing of a book on the club's history.
Committee member and author Jane Walker said it was a testament to the club's longevity.
"It certainly puts it in perspective," she said. "It takes a lot of people to keep the momentum going.
"It's a great achievement.
"The key are the individuals and the families, the people who turn up every week."
The idea for the book came — literally — out of the ashes.
"There was a secretary in the 1980s who had all the old records and burnt everything — just to get rid of them. So it's nice to have it all written down again," Walker said.
She took more than 12 months to compile countless records, newspaper articles and oral histories from people who helped the club grow into what it is today.
"It's nice to see the club has always been the same," Walker said.
