If anyone knows their way around the musculoskeletal system, it is Ian Harris.
Professor Harris, of Caringbah, has been named a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for his significant service to medicine, particularly in the field of orthopaedics as a clinician.
The AM also honours his significant service to education and research, and to professional bodies.
Professor Harris has been head of surgical specialities at Sydney South West Local Health District since 2011 and has been a professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of NSW since 2008.
He has been a visiting medical officer at Sutherland Hospital since 2005 and at St George public and private hospitals since the mid-1990s.
Professor Harris has a professional interest in trauma and was president of the Australian Orthopaedic Trauma Society.
He was also a member of the trauma committee of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, 2008-2010, and editor of Injury and Bone and Joint medical journals.
