THE new multi-level commuter car park near Sutherland railway station is expected to open in August.
A spokesman for Transport for NSW said structural work, internal fit-out and landscaping would be completed in coming weeks.
"Finishing work, including the installation of the facade, will continue into July, with the car park due to open to customers in August," he said.
The car park, which was estimated to cost $37 million when it was announced in 2012, is on the corner of Robertson and Oxford streets, about 200 metres from the station.
It was built on the site of Club on East's ground-level car park and will have 340 commuter car park spaces on the upper three levels and 78 spaces for club patrons on the ground level.
Features include lift access, stairs and CCTV surveillance cameras.
The 2007 Sutherland local environmental plan allowed developments of eight storeys on the site.
Residents in adjoining apartment blocks objected when the car park proposal was unveiled; some of their objections were acted upon.
Kevin Murray, whose home overlooks the site, said the car park was "better than I expected".
"I think they acted on a few of our suggestions," he said. "We still need to see it in operation, including whether the lights on the roof shine into our apartments and how the traffic moves."
