Mrs Anestis was born on the small island of Lipsus, near the island of Kos but has lived in Bardwell Park for the past 25 years.
She is a foundation member of the Ippokratis chapter of the Australian Hellenic Education Progressive Association and has been an AHEPA member for 30 years.
Mrs Anestis was the founding board member in 1994 of the Greek Community Home for the Aged, Greek Orthodox Community of NSW Ltd.
She has been the honorary life president of the Sydney Olympic Soccer Football Club Ladies Committee since 1996 and a member since 1985.
Mrs Anestis said she felt that it was her duty as a person to help people in need.
"When it comes to helping people, I do not discriminate on the basis on where the request and the need for assistance comes from," she said.
"I can easily communicate with the Greek community because I know that this is my duty as a person, to help people who need help. I am married to a wonderful man, now retired, who has always encouraged me to do the right thing and help.
"I believe it is innate in women to care for those in need, whether it be financial problems, education and health.
"I am not the only person who is lucky enough to be recognised and honoured. I am accepting the award on behalf of all those who have devoted their life to helping and sustaining all kinds of care."
