Sutherland Shire Council will look at available vacant land that could be used for the storage of boats and trailers.
Councillor Bruce Walton has asked the council for a report identifying suitable vacant land and state assets to store private boats, trailers and other items that are parked in suburban streets, sometimes for months.
The problem has been reported in Jacaranda Road, Caringbah, where boats have been parked in the car park on a semi-permanent basis.
Hume Road, Cronulla, has also been a problem in the past with residents angry that their street was used as a parking lot and dumping ground for boats, trailers and caravans.
"We need to see if there is vacant land out there so we can move these trailers off the streets," Cr Walton said.
Councillo Peter Towell supported the move.
"This problem has something to do with increased density which has pushed more cars and boat trailers onto the roads," he said.
Has the parking of boats and trailers in streets become a problem in the shire?
