SOUTHERN Districts came from behind at half-time to defeat premiers Eastwood 25-24 on Saturday June 13 at Foreshaw Rugby Park, Sylvania Waters.
The home team were down 17-11 at the break but hit the front early in the second half to make it 18-17 before Eastwood, who defeated them in last year’s grand final, took the lead again. A try to five-eighth Ben Volavola with four minutes left gave the home side victory.
The close result continued the series of thrilling finishes between the two teams.
Eastwood won a cliffhanger on Saturday, May 23, at TG Millner Field, 42-41, after kicking a field goal during injury time. The Rebels are third on 41 points and next play Parramatta on Saturday June 20 at 3pm at Merrylands RSL Rugby Park, Granville.
Southern Districts coach Matt Barr said Saturday’s win was a hard-fought victory.
