Sutherland Shire Council has appointed a new general manager, Scott Phillips, who is general manger of Hornsby Shire Council.
A shire resident, Mr Phillips has spent more than 20 years working within local and state government agencies with most of that time being spent in senior management roles across a range of corporate and technical responsibilities.
He has a degree in town planning and post-graduate qualifications in building surveying.
Sutherland Shire mayor Kent Johns said Mr Phillips has made a considerable contribution to the sustainable growth and development within many parts of Sydney and NSW regions.
“Scott is acknowledged in local government as an exceptional general manager and leader,’’ Cr Johns said.
‘‘We are very lucky to have secured him for the role."
‘‘Scott will guide the council through the challenges ahead and use his wealth of experience in local government to lead the staff and work closely with the councillors and I.’’
“We were presented with a large and very strong pool of candidates but Scott outshone the other applicants and my fellow councillors and I are confident we made the right decision by unanimously endorsing him for the role."
Mr Phillips will take over from the council’s general manager John Rayner who is retiring in September.
