Rockdale City’s Waratah Cup dream is over after they went down 3-2 last night, June 17, to Sydney United 58 in an epic semi-final.
Both teams finished with 10 men at Edensor Park as the teams swapped the lead three times before United sealed their place in the final.
The hosts took the lead after 18 minutes when midfielder Chris Triantis volleyed home a Theo Kofinas cross.
Four minutes later the Suns were level and United had been reduced to 10 men.
Kofinas was sent off after he received a second booking, with Marko Jesic scoring via a deflection from the resulting free kick.
Jesic put Rockdale in front five minutes before half-time.
But Rockdale were made to pay for poor discipline when goalkeeper David Bradesevic was sent off after 60 minutes for leaning his head into an opponent.
Triantis scored his second to equalise for United five minutes later.
United captain Stjepan Paric then headed in a long throw 10 minutes from time to seal a brave win and advance to the final against cup holders Blacktown City.
Rockdale will attempt to pick themselves up from the loss when they face Marconi on Saturday night, June 20, at Marconi Stadium as they return to league action.
